The Encyclopedia of Record Producers

encyclopedia-picThe Encyclopedia of Record Producers was a labor of love for editors Eric Olsen, Paul Verna—and me. It’s a massive book that includes more than 450 biographies of record producers, those men and women responsible for the sounds of pop music in all its forms. We’re thinking of updating it and reclaiming it from the publisher.

I love this book. For those of us in the music business and avid fans, it gives us that extra info you can’t get anywhere else. I encourage you to pursue the acquisition of the rights and then updating. Don’t omit any of the text you currently have because it definitely adds to a clearer picture and understanding of what it takes to produce, then and now.

    Best,

    Joe Rivers

Thanks, Joe, but doing that would be a lot of work. Perhaps Eric Olsen, who spearheaded the project, would be interested. For now, I’m working on Invisible Soul (check it out on Facebook), a book about underground Cleveland soul music. Let me know what you think of that. In the meantime, I’m proud of the Encyclopedia. It was a labor of love, and yes, it could certainly bear updating.
